Senior Management Workshop Supporting Green and Sustainable Manufacturing Capabilities

Sustainable Manufacturing faces a few barriers to implementation; the first of which is a lack of awareness of the capabilities required, as well as the potential magnitude and appropriate priority for senior leadership and corporate levels. A key challenge in understanding the business case for sustainable manufacturing is a lack of awareness of profitable paths for securing your organization’s Environmental Social Governance (ESG) objectives.

Green Manufacturing Management Workshop

As the senior leadership complement to EMC’s MEC Green Skills in Manufacturing Certification Program, the Green Manufacturing Management Workshop is an industry-driven program designed to help Canadian manufacturing and related sector leaders, to better prepare for a more rapid transition to a green and low carbon / net zero, clean manufacturing ecosystem, with the profitable business case in mind. 

This workshop is recommended for senior manufacturing leadership, executive / c-suite, senior and operational management. Ideally, participants will be key decision makers related to company priorities, including (but not limited to) green/sustainable manufacturing, energy and resource management, approving / implementing carbon footprint reduction targets, and/or deploying ESG objectives.

**During this workshop, participants will learn to:**

- Understand what sustainable manufacturing means and how to develop green and sustainable initiatives;
- Design a credible and affordable path to achieve your organization’s ESG targets;
- Identify and quantify strategic opportunities for improvement; and
- Increase employee alignment, engagement and shift culture.

**Completion Requirements:**

To complete the workshop criteria necessary for certification, participants are committing complete the following elements over a 1 or 2-week period (depending on delivery format) including:

- Attend and participate in both (2) workshop modules (either virtual or in classroom). Each module is 1½ hours.
- Actively participate in workshop elements and discussion / Q&A sessions.
- Complete hands-on assignment using your facility’s own data to quantify potential economic, environmental and social gains potentially available to the facility(s) under your care.
- Draft a 2-to-3-page/slide strategy outline and rationale for deployment of sustainable manufacturing in your organization / facility.

Working at Heights Refresher

Working at Heights refresher training reinforces key learning outcomes for workers who are exposed to the danger of a fall on construction projects. All workers must be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the correct use of fall protection equipment.

During this refresher training you will discuss;

- Personal fall protection equipment (including practical demonstration) and detailed calculations of fall distances
- Anchor points
- Work positioning systems, work access equipment and platforms

Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification – Part One

**Course Summary:**

As mandated by Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, all workplaces that employ more than 20 labourers must establish and maintain a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) to oversee and ensure the protection of their workers. In this course, participants will discuss why Joint Health and Safety Committees are important, examine the Occupational Health and Safety Act’s various requirements and penalties, and identify opportunities for improved Health and Safety measures in their own organizations.

Lean Fundamentals

### Module 1: Introduction to Lean Thinking

This module will introduce you to Lean Thinking which is a methodology that can help you work smarter, not harder. Lean Thinking helps prepare you for employment in manufacturing, participate as a member of a Lean or Continuous Improvement team, and further the skills to become a Lean Leader. 

### Module 2: Fundamentals of Lean Thinking

This module will build off what you have learned in the introduction to Lean Thinking module and will highlight the four fundamentals of Lean Thinking: Takt Time, One Piece Flow, Standard Work, and Pull Systems. By understanding these fundamentals and using them together, organizations can harness the power of Lean Thinking in order to deliver products of the highest quality at lower costs and with shorter lead times. 

### Module 3: Primary Tools of Lean

So far weʹve introduced you to Lean Thinking and some of its fundamental concepts. This module will build from what youʹve learned so far and introduce you to some of the tools used by Lean Thinking companies including Setup Time Reduction, the 5S Method, and Visual Control. These are simple, effective tools used by Lean thinkers to create process capacity, process capability, and make problems visible for further improvement. The last two modules introduced you to the philosophy driving Lean thinking and this course will show you how to begin implementing it. 

### Module 4: Thinking in Value Streams

As weʹve learned in the introduction, fundamentals, and primary tools courses, Lean thinking is all about identifying and eliminating waste in our business practices. This module will build on what youʹve learned and introduce you to Value Stream Mapping; a useful tool businesses can use to begin their Lean transformations. Understanding value streams helps to combat waste that is inherent to batch processing by reorienting the way we think about our operations and integrating processes instead of segregating them. 

### Module 5: Kaizen: Learn by Doing

When we looked at value streams, we learned that when we map out our desired future state it often becomes clear there are processes that need improvement. Kaizen is a method that helps us to make those improvements by focusing on everyday changes that can be made in our workspaces. Itʹs about identifying problems and implementing better ways to do work by simplifying tasks. If our future state maps show us where we want to get to, then Kaizen is how we can begin implementing it! 

### Module 6: Implementing Good Ideas

Good ideas come from everywhere, but where do they start? Do good ideas just pop into our heads? Is there a reason? How will we know if our ideas are good ones, or if they work? In this final module in our Lean Thinking series, we will explore the PDCA method, which stands for “Plan, Do, Check, Act”. PDCA is a methodology that helps us to structure the way we think about a problem so we have a better chance of generating effective solutions that can help us work towards continuous improvement in our workplaces. 

### Hands-on Lean Fundamentals Project

This short project helps learners to understand how to apply the lessons they have learned through the course within the workplace and everyday life.

This is a discussion based certification training program that reviews the operation of elevating work platforms including scissor lifts, zoom-boom lifts and articulating lifts. **Practical evaluations**

Every participant will go through a practical evaluation after training on the equipment they are likely to be using. These evaluations are a test of the workers’ familiarity and experience level of the equipment.

If your workers are attending one of our training centers, we have a variety of elevated work platforms on site that they can use for their practical evaluations.  You can do evaluations on multiple pieces of equipment.
