### Building Skills for Success: Supervisors
While Supervisors develop their coaching and mentorship skills in this program, they will have opportunities to apply the learning immediately to Front Line workers within their organizations who are concurrently receiving their own training. Frontline workers will enhance their learning and growth through the direct, ongoing support of their supervisors. By developing these skills companies can expect to see improved communication, mentorship, performance management and overall leadership of supervisors. This program provides skills training using industry validated content, live or virtually facilitated learning blended with e-learning and applied learning opportunities.

### Building Skills for Success: Frontline Workers
This program offers a unique model where participants receive direct and ongoing support from their supervisors who are participating in a concurrent program. The goal of this model is to provide enhanced learning and growth to frontline workers and increase their success in the workplace. By developing these skills companies can expect to see improved understanding of skills for success, attention to quality assurance, problem solving, communication, collaboration and adaptability.

EMC’s Supporting Learning Differences project aims to enhance the capacity of the manufacturing sector to support employees with learning differences. This national initiative will provide employers with access to customized supports, resources, and growth opportunities to support employees facing learning differences.

Project objectives are to:

- Conduct research to understand the scope of learning differences in the sector and unique challenges faced by employers and employees in the workplace
- Provide manufacturing employees with tools and supports to excel in foundational skills development through new and innovative approaches to identify and address learning differences
- Provide employers with access to a toolkit of industry-validated resources designed to allow manufacturers create equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplaces.
- Create awareness within the sector, share best practices, and strategies for accommodation to provide employers with the tools to build supportive and inclusive workplaces.

EMC will be conducting a national survey to gather valuable data on hiring practices, training needs, and inclusion initiatives specific to learning differences in the manufacturing sector. Your participation will help shape a clearer picture of the sector’s needs, challenges, and best practices for supporting learning diversity. All survey data will contribute to building actionable insights and benchmarks for the sector and inform the development of industry-validated resources, tools, and strategies to enhance employer capacity for inclusive workplaces.

EMC is a partner with the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF-FCA) for the recently launched National Mentor Development Program for Women in the Skilled Trades designed to develop and enhance mentorship skills for women and gender diverse individuals in the trades. This virtual, 4-month program is facilitated by subject matter experts in collaboration with tradeswomen coaches from the manufacturing and construction sectors. The program is offered at no cost to participants from across Canada.

Canada's skilled worker shortage is a pressing issue, especially in the manufacturing sector, where demand is increasing due to rapid technological advancements and impending retirements. WILWorks Skilled Trades in Advanced Manufacturing is a pre-apprenticeship program for youth (ages15-29), offering foundational skills in advanced manufacturing trades. Participants will explore skilled trades careers and gain hands-on experience .

This program is designed to build a skilled workforce for Canada’s manufacturing future, utilizing employer-led, hands-on training and mentorship. Participants gain access to self-directed e-learning focused on introductory technical skills in mechanical, electrical and machining.

Our employer-friendly approach lets you integrate training easily into the workplace while allowing participants to gain valuable, real-world experience during a training period of 8 weeks or more. Funded by the Government of Canada's Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy, eligible employers receive a wage subsidy of up to $5000 to support quality training periods. Throughout the training period, participants will engage in online self-directed learning and may be paired with a mentor in the workplace who will help them apply their skills to real-world scenarios. Additionally, they will receive support and guidance from an EMC Advancement Coach, who will provide progress updates and offer insights, career information, and resources for skilled trades pathways in manufacturing.

The program offers employers a financial incentive of up to $2,500 per participant for an 8–10-week work term. 

Participants will gain valuable knowledge and micro-credentials by completing two online self-directed training programs during their term.  

EMC’s Manufacturing Foundations (approximately 4 hours) certifies that the participant has developed an authentic understanding of what it takes to be successful in manufacturing and will have demonstrated employability soft skills in a manufacturing workplace.  

Lean Fundamentals (approximately 6-8 hours) certifies that the learner has developed an understanding of the principles of Lean thinking in a manufacturing environment.

Funded by the Government of Canada through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), the goal of the WILWorks Youth in Manufacturing Program is to increase awareness of the manufacturing sector as a career destination of choice. Atlantic Canada employers involved in the program will receive mentorship training for current employees at no cost and a financial incentive of up to $2500 for each youth work placement. The program provides eligible participants (aged 16-20) with funded industry recognized training to support a work placement in the manufacturing sector.

- A registered Canadian business or organization operating in one of the four Atlantic Canada Provinces: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island
- A member of Canada's manufacturing sector or a related sector (NAICS 31-33) 
- Commitment to a minimum of 4-10 hours of participant training during the work period 
- Commitment to provide participants with 8-10 weeks work (80-120 hours) 

- Between 16-20 years old at program start 
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

All youth participants complete EMC’s Manufacturing Foundations Micro-credential and EMC’s Lean Fundamentals Micro-credential training. This training is offered in a self-directed online format and will take most participants approximately 4-10 hours to complete. The training complements but does not replace existing onboarding procedures and training employers provide to new hires or student placements. 


EMC monitors participant progress and provides individual support to ensure learning completion. Employers are informed of the participant’s progress by being included in the communications.   

EMC expects employers to match the participant with a mentor – most suitably, a colleague in the same department or on the same shift. We offer online mentorship training to the individual selected to work with the participant.  

EMC requests the employer allow time for the participant to complete training in the first few weeks of the term.

Participant Involvement

Funded by the Province of British Columbia’s StrongerBC: Future Ready Action Plan 

This initiative supports skills training and short-term, paid work placements for B.C. youth aged 16-24 to develop skills and work experience for success in the workforce. British Columbia’s manufacturing employers participating in the program will receive mentorship training for one current employee and a financial subsidy of up to $3,500 for each youth work placement.

Eligible employers will receive up to $3,500 per placement to offset onboarding, on-the-job training and wage costs for participants aged 16-24. The B.C. Youth in Manufacturing Initiative can support multiple placements per manufacturer.

All youth participants are required to complete EMC online learning modules, including [Manufacturing Foundations](https://emccanada.org/training/manufacturing-foundations) and [Lean Fundamentals](https://emccanada.org/training/lean-fundamentals).  

In addition to the youth training, EMC’s [Mentorship in Manufacturing](https://emccanada.org/training/mentorship-in-manufacturing) online learning program is available for existing staff that will be working alongside the youth participants. This training is a great way to invest in new and current employees, and is funded by the initiative.

Participants receive ongoing support from EMC staff and can expect regular check-ins during the placement.


The B.C. Youth in Manufacturing Initiative can be broken down into 5 easy steps: 

1. **Apply**: Applications are online and take 5 minutes to complete. Applications are open on a rolling entry basis and can be submitted within 1 month of hire or before a participant has been hired.
2. **Consent Forms**:  Once your application has been accepted, our team will be in touch to provide you with consent participation forms.
3. **Online Learning**: Participants receive access to the training modules at the start of the placement. Youth must complete the training modules to receive the incentive.
4. **Employment**:  Youth work towards the hours worked requirements. (240 hours for youth in high school, 320 for all other youth participants)
5. **Incentive Processing**: Once the learning and hours required are completed, the EMC team will work with you to collect the documentation needed to process the incentive!

In EMC’s Lean Fundamentals course, youth will get acquainted with the essence of Lean Thinking, from Value Stream mapping to the art of Kaizen. But it’s not just theory – they will put knowledge into action with a hands-on lean project. Finish up, and they’re certified, demonstrating an understanding of the Lean Thinking principles for the manufacturing world.

Give Youth a Head Start in Their Career

To be eligible, youth participants must be:  

- a resident of British Columbia (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Refugee)  
- eligible to work in Canada    
- aged 16-24 (at start of program)   
- a current high school student, post-secondary student enrolled in a program that does not have a work integrated learning/co-op component or not enrolled in education or training

EMC's B.C. Youth in Manufacturing initiative is available to manufacturers with youth completing Work Experience (WEX) terms.

Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium, a preferred partner with the Government of Canada, delivers the Student Work Placement Program subsidy to Canadian manufacturers.  

WILWorks SWPP – Post Secondary Students – Important Update:

**Winter 2025 Placement Term – January 1 to March 31:**

EMC has limited SWPP (Student Work Placement Program) funding for this term. We are pleased to provide you with advance notice that the WILWorks Post Secondary Program platform will be open for eligible net new applications for the current Winter term for a brief period (5 days), starting on Monday, February 24th at 9:00 am EST up to Friday, February 28th at 3:00 pm EST. 

- Funding is limited and applications must meet Net New requirements for the 2024/2025 fiscal year. There is a very high volume of interest and we will transition to a waitlist once this limited funding target is met.  (Due to limited funding, there will be a limit to submit up to 2 eligible net new applications for this term)
- For the purpose of funding, it would cover the % for the period from January 1, 2025 to March 31, 2025 = 13 week max

**Summer 2025 Placement Term – May 1 – August 31:**

EMC has received additional SWPP (Student Work Placement Program) funding. We are pleased to provide you with advance notice that the WILWorks Post Secondary Program platform will be open for eligible net new applications for the upcoming Summer 2025 term starting on Wednesday, March 5th at 9:00 am EST.

- Funding is limited and applications must meet Net New requirements for this upcoming new fiscal year – 2025-2026. There is a very high volume of interest and we will transition to a waitlist once this limited funding target is met.
- Applications received will be reviewed and assessed based on program eligibility criteria and regional funding availability.

With EMC and ACOA’s Recovery Coaching sessions, manufacturing leaders receive hands-on support for facilitating improved productivity and engagement throughout their organization.
