Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC) in partnership with Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) has launched a coaching program helping manufacturers better understand the current situation they face by identifying and supporting a clear path forward.

### Coaching & Subject Matter Expert Support
With EMC and ACOA’s Recovery Coaching sessions, manufacturing leaders receive hands-on support for facilitating improved productivity and engagement throughout their organization.

Up to 40 one-on-one opportunities are available. These opportunities are available on a first come, first served basis.  Coaching sessions are intended to provide individual manufacturers or leaders with hands-on support in planning, mapping and deploying steps to return to productivity, as well as engage improvements along the way.

### Lean Leader & Management Systems Program Overview - For Nova Scotia Manufacturers

EMC is deploying a Lean Leader & Management Systems Certificate Program designed to provide industry with enhanced productivity improvement knowledge, networking/benchmarking resources and new management and productivity system training, beginning September 12.  

EMC’s Lean Leader & Management Systems Certificate Program enables participants to learn, measure, adjust, implement and sustain their own company’s strategic lean planning, while at the same time achieving positive ROI impact while they learn.

With the added value of networking and benchmarking with peers through a unique productivity cluster approach, participating companies will also realize potential project ROI targets ranging from $25,000 to 100,000 while completing the program! In a recent program cohort, annual ROI ranged from $50,000 to $400,000+ for participating companies!

The Lean Leader & Management Systems Certificate Program training program will be deployed virtually, over ten 1/2-day modules. Facilitators will maintain flexibility in content delivery based on participant/organization needs. The following schedule and agenda will be used to guide the program:

This initiative supports skills training and short-term, paid work placements for up to 500 B.C. youth aged 16-21 to develop skills and work experience for success in the workforce. British Columbia’s manufacturing employers participating in the program will receive mentorship training for one current employee and a financial subsidy of up to $3,500 for each youth work placement.

Eligible employers will receive up to $3,500 per placement to offset onboarding, on-the-job training and wage costs for participants aged 16-21 (if not in high school, not enrolled in post-secondary education or training) and up to $2,500 for participants in high school.   

All youth participants complete EMC training, including [Manufacturing Foundations](https://emccanada.org/training/manufacturing-foundations) and [Lean Fundamentals](https://emccanada.org/training/lean-fundamentals). In addition to the youth training, the employer receives mentorship training for one employee per placement. This can be a great way to invest in new and current employees. Participants receive ongoing support from EMC staff through regular check-ins during the placement, and EMC tracks and supports mentor training.   

The Mentorship in Manufacturing training program explores workplace mentorship, emphasizing the importance of positive relationships and employee engagement in manufacturing. Participants will learn how to be effective mentors, identify teaching opportunities, and develop mentees. Gain valuable skills to foster a successful mentorship culture in your organization.

The program offers employers a financial incentive of up to $2,500 per participant for an 8–10-week work term. 

Participants will gain valuable knowledge and micro-credentials by completing two online self-directed training programs during their term.  

EMC’s Manufacturing Foundations (approximately 6 hours) certifies that the participant has developed an authentic understanding of what it takes to be successful in manufacturing and will have demonstrated employability soft skills in a manufacturing workplace.  

Lean Fundamentals (approximately 6-8 hours) certifies that the learner has developed an understanding of the principles of Lean thinking in a manufacturing environment.

Funded by the Government of Canada through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), the goal of the WILWorks Youth in Manufacturing Program is to increase awareness of the manufacturing sector as a career destination of choice. Atlantic Canada employers involved in the program will receive mentorship training for current employees at no cost and a financial incentive of up to $2500 for each youth work placement. The program provides eligible participants (aged 16-20) with funded industry recognized training to support a work placement in the manufacturing sector.

- A registered Canadian business or organization operating in one of the four Atlantic Canada Provinces: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island
- A member of Canada's manufacturing sector or a related sector (NAICS 31-33)

- Increase in work-integrated learning placements for the learners you support 
- Fantastic program to support the school-to-work transition

All youth participants complete EMC’s Manufacturing Foundations Micro-credential and EMC’s Lean Fundamentals Micro-credential training. This training is offered in a self-directed online format and will take most participants approximately 14-16 hours to complete. The training complements but does not replace existing onboarding procedures and training employers provide to new hires or student placements. 


EMC monitors participant progress and provides individual support to ensure learning completion. Employers are informed of the participant’s progress by being included in the communications.   

EMC expects employers to match the participant with a mentor – most suitably, a colleague in the same department or on the same shift. We offer online mentorship training to the individual selected to work with the participant.  

EMC requests the employer allow time for the participant to complete training in the first few weeks of the term.

Robert is a business owner and lawyer, licensed to practice Immigration Law in Ontario. Robert graduated with his LLB from l’Universite de Moncton in 1995. He practiced primarily civil litigation in Sudbury while also working in sports law with a firm based in Chicago for almost 10 years before switching career paths to become Owner and CEO of multiple companies.

In 2006 while the General Manager of City Welding in Sudbury, Robert turned to international recruiting to fill what was fast becoming a serious skilled labour shortage in Northern Ontario.
