Chaos or Calm?
Your facility’s vulnerability to different risks will vary. For example, wildfire risk depends on factors such as location, surrounding vegetation, and building materials.
Women in Manufacturing with Lilly Wood
Welder/fabricator Lilly Wood credits supportive guidance at critical moments for helping her discover and thrive in a profession she might never have otherwise considered. Her future changed course when she was introduced to welding through a workplace visit. That single day at Charlottetown Metal Products sparked a passion that continues today.
Re-Assessing First Aid Programs
Keeping first aid programs up to date is critical. According to OHS Canada[i], “A key occupational health and safety (OHS) activity for any organization to undertake is to continually assess and improve first aid programs… It is important to avoid a “one and done” approach and instead understand how the shifting complexities of the environment could impact first aid plans, supplies, equipment, and training needs.”

Circadian Rhythms, Shift Work & Workplace Injuries
In many industries, such as healthcare, manufacturing, and emergency services, shift work is an essential component to allow organizations to operate efficiently and effectively. However, demands associated with shift work can disrupt a worker’s circadian rhythm. Workers typically sleep less and have lower quality of sleep when sleeping during the day compared to the night.
Learning Styles
Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC) has launched the “Supporting Learning Differences” initiative, a national program aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Canadian manufacturing sector to support employees with diverse learning needs. Recognizing that individuals learn differently due to factors such as age, language, essential skill levels, learning disabilities, and neurodivergence, this initiative seeks to provide both employers and employees with tailored resources and strategies to improve training performance and workplace outcomes.
