Challenges, Workforce Solutions, and the Path Forward
Strengthening the Manufacturing Sector in BC
Manufacturing plays a vital role in British Columbia’s economy, yet manufacturers continue to face significant challenges—from workforce shortages to supply chain disruptions, shifting global markets, and the ongoing threat of U.S. tariffs. In this session hosted by Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC), participants will gain an overview of the current state of manufacturing in BC, with insights into trends, opportunities, and emerging issues facing the sector.
The session will explore practical programs and supports available to help local manufacturers tackle today’s most pressing issues. Learn how communities and economic developers can connect their manufacturers with EMC’s suite of tools, services, and collaborative networks designed to boost productivity, resilience, and competitiveness.
A key focus will be on two initiatives making a real difference at the local level:
- EMC’s Youth in Manufacturing Initiative helps businesses train and build the next generation of skilled workers. Discover how companies across BC are leveraging this innovative program to address labour shortages, upskill their teams, and create long-term employment pathways. Real-world examples and success stories will highlight how this initiative is helping revitalize local economies and build stronger manufacturing ecosystems.
- EMC’s Supply Chain & Productivity Initiative is a new strategic focus on productivity and supply chains to address Canadian small and medium manufacturing and the rapidly changing industrial, economic, and geopolitical landscape. This initiative will provide exclusive, practical insights that are not readily available elsewhere, reinforcing EMC’s role as the premier industry partner for manufacturing support in Canada. Participants will learn how this program will help companies respond to global uncertainty with strategic, made-in-Canada solutions.
Whether you’re a local leader, economic developer, or industry partner, this session will equip you with the knowledge and resources needed to support the growth, sustainability, and self-sufficiency of manufacturing in your region.
