A Fresh Perspective

Newfoundland Manufacturing Industry Forum

A Fresh Perspective is a half-day manufacturing forum designed to bring forward new thinking, relevant insights, and practical takeaways for today’s manufacturing industry. Through three engaging sessions, participants will hear from guest speakers and explore key topics in culture, organizational wellness and the link to profitability, and emerging supports that can strengthen workforce and operational performance.

St. John's, NL

While details are still being finalized, the focus is on delivering timely, real-world perspectives that reflect the challenges and opportunities manufacturers are navigating today.

8:00am – Networking Breakfast

Connect with fellow manufacturers, supply chain partners, speakers, and sponsors – full breakfast included.

8:45am – Opening Remarks

Welcome and context-setting from EMC, framing the day around growth, leadership and supporting resources for manufacturers.

9:00am – Built Different – Leading a Multigenerational Workforce in Modern Manufacturing, presented by Dr. Janelle Abela, Diverse Solutions

Today’s manufacturing workforce spans nearly 6 generations, creating both opportunities and challenges in communication, safety, and performance. This session explores how generational differences impact daily operations and team dynamics. Moving beyond stereotypes, participants will engage with real-world scenarios and gain practical strategies to improve communication, reduce conflict, and strengthen collaboration across roles and shifts. Attendees will leave with tools to build more cohesive, adaptive, and high-performing teams.

10:15 am – Networking Break

10:45am – Navigating Resources for Manufacturers

Discover how EMC supports manufacturers through peer-to-peer networking, leadership development, workforce training, and practical tools designed specifically for the sector. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your leadership team, upskill your workforce, build new relationships with your future supply chain or connect with a community that understands your challenges, EMC provides the insights and support to move your business forward.

11:30am – Culture – The Shadow of Leadership, presented by Stewart Pollard

Culture sets the tone, mood and sustainability of your business. You may have heard the expression “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”, but it’s also true the “Culture is the shadow of leadership”. The gap between what you permit and what you promote defines your manufacturing organization and ultimately your performance and results.

Return on investment is a regular conversation when we are talking equipment, but have you considered the ROI on leadership development and culture (your human capital). Or…are you the opposite ROI – the Risk of Indifference.

12:30pm – Networking Lunch

1:00pm – Applied Learning Roundtable Meeting

Newfoundland Manufacturing Industry Forum

Hosted by Joan Richard, MCM.

This initiative is proudly supported by Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC) and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) through the MRSP program.
