- EMC Presentation - Issues Affecting Manufacturing Join EMC President Jean-Pierre (JP) Giroux for a discussion on the current state of Canada’s manufacturing sector, issues affecting manufacturing, and the current challenges EMC is helping industry to address. Hear about solutions EMC members are engaging to build their People-Plant-Process capabilities, while transitioning to low carbon/net zero economy and more sustainable production ecosystems.

About the speakers:

Pierre Cléroux was appointed Vice President, Research and Chief Economist at BDC in 2012. Pierre leads a team of experts who analyze economic data to identify business and sector trends impacting Canadian entrepreneurs. A seasoned speaker, he regularly travels across the country to help business owners understand the risks and opportunities presented by the economic environment.

Mr. Cléroux is also responsible for providing economic analysis and advice to the Bank’s senior management team, and supervises all marketing and industry research activities. Over his 25-year career as an economist, he has held several influential positions that had a direct impact on entrepreneurs in Canada and abroad.

Before joining BDC, Pierre worked for the Government of Saudi Arabia as Vice President, Business Analysis in the National Industry Clusters Development Program. Previously, Mr. Cléroux was the Quebec Assistant Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, responsible for the implementation of economic policies and programs to support small and medium-sized businesses and encourage entrepreneurship.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s degree in Economics from Laval University, as well as an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Jean Pierre Giroux, as President of EMC, is focused on growing a more competitive manufacturing sector that supports Canadian businesses so that they can provide good jobs and strong economic growth opportunities for communities across the country.

With over 20 years in manufacturing, JP is focused on ensuring the sector’s future through youth engagement, succession planning, technology and skills solutions, and the adoption of green manufacturing. JP has also overseen EMC’s development of new advanced skills solutions and certification programs for the Canadian manufacturing industry.

On top of all this, he somehow finds time to pursue his other passions of skiing, cycling, and golf near his home in Gatineau, Quebec.
