Introduction to Kaizen
This course builds on concepts introduced in the Introduction to Lean Thinking and describes various approaches to implementing change through Kaizen. Although kaizen is a Japanese term for continuous improvement, here in North America it most often refers to a 3 to 5 day ‘blitz’ improvement event. We will cover these kaizen blitz events and also discuss creating a culture of ‘daily kaizen’ – the process of encouraging small improvements, every day.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to;
- Explain kaizen in its popular forms.
- Participate in kaizen activities.
- Understand the steps to planning a kaizen event.
- Effectively choose a cross functional team for kaizen improvements.
Applications:
This Introduction to Kaizen should be understood as a solid introduction to the application of kaizen in your continuous improvement journey. We offer more in depth programs that teach kaizen in a Train the Trainer format. We recommend integrating this introductory course into training plans such as:
- New employee orientation
- Supervisor development to mentor team members
- Manager development to mentor supervisors and teams
- Support staff and administration personnel
- Development of Continuous Improvement leaders
