The specific objectives of the project are to:
- Identify current hiring and skills challenges facing employers in manufacturing and related industries
- Explore attitudes and experiences with hiring and retaining immigrants and internationally trained workers
- Understand how employers share input with government, educators, and sector organizations
- Assess supports and resources that would help employers better recruit, train, and retain diverse, skilled workers

Project Phases
- July – December 2024: disseminate employer survey
- August – December 2024: disseminate education survey
- November – February 2025: host four webinars to share data as it becomes available
- April – September 2025: host regional townhalls across the province in manufacturing hubs including Edmonton, Calgary, Central Alberta, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Grand Prairie, Ft. McMurray, and Lloydminster
- October – December 2025: develop and share roadmaps
Using our expertise in qualitative and quantitative research, the province-wide initiative will target up to 300 BC firms/processors in all manufacturing regions – an unprecedented data collection effort for British Columbia’s sector. The data and findings will be delivered through EMC’s ManufacturingGPS platform, a unique online LMI platform that integrates evergreen LMI with EMC’s approach to visualizing labour market intelligence based on relevant industry needs.
