A labour market study in British Columbia

EMC is currently conducting an unprecedented deep-dive labour market study in British Columbia’s manufacturing sector. This survey is part of a Labour Market Information (LMI) initiative in British Columbia to better understand the current and emerging workforce needs of the manufacturing sector, with a focus on youth and internationally trained newcomer talent.

Your insights as a manufacturer are essential. The information you provide will help identify workforce challenges, skills gaps, recruitment and retention needs, and the opportunities that exist to better support talent entering and growing within BC’s manufacturing industry. Findings from this survey will help inform future programs, supports, and policies that strengthen the sector’s labour market.

The specific objectives of the project are to:

  • Identify current hiring and skills challenges facing employers in manufacturing and related industries
  • Explore attitudes and experiences with hiring and retaining immigrants and internationally trained workers
  • Understand how employers share input with government, educators, and sector organizations
  • Assess supports and resources that would help employers better recruit, train, and retain diverse, skilled workers

By sharing your perspective, you’re helping shape responsive solutions that strengthen not only your workforce, but the competitiveness and resilience of BC’s manufacturing sector as a whole.
