What do Employment Contracts Look Like?

The Anatomy of an Employment Contract

This session will explore the importance and necessity of employment contracts. Canadian manufacturers welcome!

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 2:53 pm
Virtual

What we found throughout the pandemic and subsequently is not only the importance of employment contracts with employees, but also, that many organizations don’t actually have them! This can lead to uncertainty when unexpected circumstances arise requiring terminations and/or layoffs. During this session we will discuss:

  1. What is an employment contract and when are they entered into– might sound simple but often people do not know what these should look like.
  2. Key provisions of an employment contract – some of the most important provisions in employment contracts are the termination provisions. Without clearly drafted termination provisions, there will be uncertainty surrounding the notice and/or pay in lieu of notice required should an employee be terminated.
  3. It is not one size fits all – often employment contracts will be bare bones and not account for the specifics of an organization. So, it is important to tailor the agreement to the employer’s needs. We will discuss specific examples of this.
