GHG Metrics and Energy Efficiency
An increasing number of manufacturers are being asked by their customers to provide information on the carbon footprint of the products they produce. However, recent analysis conducted by EMC indicates that approximately 70% of manufacturers are not currently measuring or tracking their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, highlighting a significant gap in data visibility across the sector.
Understanding the sources and types of emissions within manufacturing operations is a critical first step toward developing effective strategies to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and optimize processes. This knowledge also supports informed decision-making when evaluating green manufacturing practices and the adoption of clean technologies.
EMC encourages members to move beyond the notion of simply “using energy more efficiently.” Instead, we advocate for a whole-system, big-picture approach that identifies opportunities for meaningful performance improvements. This broader perspective often delivers greater energy and cost savings while minimizing the need for significant capital investment.
