An EMC Members' Experience & Insights
Bridging the Skilled Trades Gap through International Recruitment
Let's hear from EMC Member Robert Brouillette from City Welding, as he shares his experience regarding international recruitment of skilled trades and bridging the labour gap.
At this 1-hour session, we will hear from EMC Member Robert Brouillette, Owner and President of City Welding. With a license to practice Immigration Law in Ontario, Robert was not easily intimidated by the complex processes of immigration and international recruitment.
City Welding services the industrial, commercial, transportation, logging, and construction industries, with a large facility in the northeast end of Sudbury. Since 2006, Robert has used international recruiting to fill what was fast becoming a serious skilled labour shortage in northern Ontario. Currently, about 40% of their workforce at City Welding are skilled workers from countries across the globe.
Brouillette estimates that he has recruited more than 30 internationally-trained skilled workers over the years, for his own shop and for other businesses. Rob will detail his successes in this regard and provide insights on how you can also do this at your company.
