In this course, participants gain a thorough introduction to every aspect of crane usage — including operational instructions, supervisory practices, and supplemental equipment — and analyze when and how a crane should be employed. Course participants are also informed of the various legal requirements that must be adhered to during crane operations.

Course Summary:

Cranes are a critical component of many manufacturing processes. Regardless of how familiar we are with using and working around them, though, we must keep in mind that they are also powerful, potentially-dangerous machines. In this course, participants gain a thorough introduction to every aspect of crane usage — including operational instructions, supervisory practices, and supplemental equipment — and analyze when and how a crane should be employed.

Course participants also receive detailed safety guidance on the operation of cranes, and are informed of the various legal requirements that must be adhered to when doing so. This course is ideal for labourers of any type who perform their duties in an environment where cranes are commonly used and worked around.

  • How to correctly operate a crane.
  • The training and qualifications required to utilize heavy machinery in a manufacturing workplace.
  • How supervisors administrate crane usage.
  • Identifying potential hazards when operating a crane.
  • Individual and governmental Health and Safety requirements surrounding crane usage.
  • Installing and utilizing supplemental crane equipment.
  • Understand their legal responsibilities for operating cranes and hoists.
  • Understand their legal responsibilities for slinging/rigging loads safely.
  • Understand the best practices and procedures from experienced, competent persons.
  • Gain practical knowledge to help avoid potential safety problems.
  • Gain knowledge of legal liabilities for contravening regulations.

Practical Skills Evaluation

Certification of competency requires successful completion of both a written in-class examination and a hands-on practical skills evaluation to be completed at your workplace or job site. One evaluation is included with all private onsite sessions.  For all virtual/distance learning sessions a form will be provided and it is up to the employer to complete and deem competency. Please contact us for specific coverage details.

Candidates should complete their practical evaluation within 90 days of successfully completing the course.

In order to conduct the equipment evaluation, participants must ensure:

  • They possess sufficient prior experience with each piece of equipment to be evaluated
  • All equipment has current annual certification and inspection documentation
  • The equipment is properly maintained and functioning correctly

DURATION: One Day-Long Session + Practical Skills Evaluation

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT: In-Person Classroom or Virtual Classroom Practical Skills Evaluation (for all distance learning sessions a form will be provided and it is up to the employer to complete and deem competency)
