It weighs just seven pounds and folds into a nylon carrying bag. But the new portable UHF SatCom Antenna produced by TACO Antenna – a division of Wade Antenna – has some powerful communications features that the Canadian and U.S. militaries rely on.

Built to military standards, the SAT-MP-320 covers the entire frequency band of 240 to 400 MHz with 11 dBic gain. Designed and built in Brant, it is a single piece, foldable antenna and tripod unit that deploys in under 30 seconds. No additional parts are needed. That may sound complicated, but it’s one of the reasons why Wade Antenna on Sharp Road was presented with the Salute to Brant Business innovation award in 2013. “The big thing for me was how I felt about winning the award, it is because of our employees,” Murphy said. “Doing it as one person doesn’t work, you really need to brainstorm and network. A lot of our group is thinking outside the box, reading articles on how to be more innovative and learning from groups like Google.”
